Bike Safety - A new campaign for Basingstoke

Not one to dismiss a good idea/initiative when we see one but we spotted the following article in the Basingstoke Observer. We think this is a good idea. In 2008 motorcyclists represented 1% of road traffic but accounted for 19% of all fatalities. Writing from experience if you know a biker, as a car driver you will look out for bikes!

Commission likely to condemn UK dirty air inaction

The European Commission is likely to decide tomorrow on another crackdown on UK failure to comply with EU clean air standards in regard to pollution due to particles from diesel vehicles, power plants and factories. This could lead to a European Court judgement and a fine.

Cash Crisis at Basingstoke Hospital

This week's announcement of funding cuts at Basingstoke Hospital is a cause for great concern. (see Gazette, Monday 8th March). At a time when the population served by the Hospital continues to increase, this is a double blow. Whilst the hospital NHS trust will do its best to manage the process, much of the real change needed is beyond their powers.
