Tories pull plug on green energy

Basingstoke's Tories have blocked Lib Dem proposals to use Council buildings and land for

generating green electricity.

The Lib Dems wanted the Council to survey all its

property and land and install solar panels, wind turbines

and other renewable options where it was viable.

New rules introduced by the Lib Dems in Westminster

mean Councils can sell any surplus energy they generate

to the national grid to fund services or reduce Council tax.

Cllr Ron Hussey said, "I'm disappointed the Tories won't work

with us on this. Winchester, Aldershot and Farnborough are

investing in renewable energy to save their Councils money

and protect local people from fluctuating gas and oil prices."

You have to wonder what Basingstoke's Tories' priorities are!
