Not Enough Funds for Resurfacing

The Buckland Avenue/Western Way junction is particularly bad
Cllr Hussey demonstrates surface dressing on Buckland Avenue/Western Way Junction

The road surface along Western Way is very poor and uneven. Residents have been

asking for it to be resurfaced for a very long time.

Unfortunately the Tory led County Council has not provided sufficient funds for highway

officers to fully maintain Basingstoke's roads. As a result, the maintenance work in

Western Way will be limited to patching the worst affected areas.

Residents will have noticed white paint lines appearing in some areas. These areas will be cut-out and then refilled.

When this work is complete, the road surface will be sprayed with a bitumen adhesive and coated with

chippings. This is called "surface dressing".

So if you spot an area where the road is bumpy and hasn't been "marked" for patching, please let us know.
