Hampshire's Police and Crime commissioner announced

The Lib Dems across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are pleased to announce they have selected a retired Hampshire Police Inspector's son and local Councillor, David Goodall, as their candidate for the election of the Hampshire Police & Crime Commissioner.

David Goodall, 49, is also the brother of a serving Hampshire Police Inspector and does know quite a bit about a policeman's lot; both his father and brother have served across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and had difficult incidents to deal with. David has been married to Kerstin since 1989 and they have two 15 year old sons, so he appreciates how effective policing affects the future happiness of our children.

As an Eastleigh councillor David is a member of the Community Safety Forum which works to improve relationships between the police, community groups and residents.

He is Chair of West End Parish Council which has regular briefings with the police and contributes funding to ensure that at least one Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) is on duty during the day in West End to ensure a visible police presence on the streets.

In his professional life, David is Project Manager for an international research and development company. He is experienced in managing budgets and taking critical decisions. As a technical consultant, he is also involved in a number of security related issues, including tackling the growing problem of cyber crime.

Commenting on his selection, David Goodall said: "The most important issue facing the new Police and Crime Commissioner will be how to provide a good police service across Hants and the Isle of Wight given the current state of public finances."

David continued: "I believe the key is getting value for money by ensuring that police officer's time is maximised doing police work and not paperwork. Good use of technology and a cull of forms will be essential to achieve this.

"It is also essential to get all the agencies working together to tackle the causes of crime and this is where I see the new Hants Police and Crime Commissioner having a key role."

Leading Hampshire County Council councillor and Eastleigh Council Leader, Keith House said: "We are delighted to have such an experienced campaigner, with a first-rate knowledge of policing, as our candidate for Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner."
