Gavin James new Lib Dem Group Leader

Councillor Gavin James has been elected the new Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Basingstoke and Deane Council.

"Gavin was proposed by outgoing Leader Councillor John Shaw and elected with unanimous support."

John Shaw said "I am delighted to hand over to Gavin so he can build on the solid Liberal Democrat success in this years elections. All our Councillors were re-elected with record votes and the Lib Dems are now 2nd place in all three Parliamentary seats that include parts of the Borough."

Councillor Gavin James was first elected as Councillor for Eastrop Ward in 2008. He was re-elected this May with 1172 votes.

Gavin said "I am looking forward to further developing local Liberal Democrat policies the emphasis the clear distinct and attractive vision we offer for Basingstoke and Deane."
