Councillors call for review of green field building plans
A Committee of Borough Councillors has agreed that the
case for building houses on sites near The Gables and at the back
of Micheldever Road should be reviewed by the Council's
Corporate Director before it goes forward for the next stage of
planning. Keith Watts plus a Town Councillor and a resident
from each of the two areas spoke at the meeting on 10th August.
Keith Watts said that building on The Gables site would extend
Whitchurch unnecessarily into the open countryside and would
damage the special character of the Conservation Area.
Keith said that Micheldever Road was not an adequate highway
access for 200 additional houses.
The Committee did not agree with Keith that a site next to the
bypass A34 could not be called suitable until noise reduction
measures had been agreed.
