It's now official - on 5 May this year British voters will decide whether to stick with an out-dated voting system, or to move forward to a fairer system where every vote counts.

The AV referendum bill was finally passed late last Wednesday evening, after ping-pong over a 40% threshold which was in the end defeated, despite a Tory rebellion! And there's more good news: an Independent on Sunday poll found last weekend that the Yes campaign is 10 points ahead in the polls! As Nick Clegg said in his speech to kick off the campaign:

"Under the Alternative Vote, there need never be another wasted vote. That means you can use your vote positively. It means you can feel confident voting for the person or party you want to win and not have to think tactically about who can. That can only be good for our democracy.

The Alternative Vote puts you back in charge. You get a bigger say in who your MP is. A bigger foothold in our democracy. A bigger stake in our country. And that will mean more people getting interested and involved in politics, knowing that their voices will be heard and that their actions can have a real impact. And that can only be good for our democracy."

For those of you that haven't already been involved in the fight for fairer votes and want to you can sign up to receive information on how you can get involved in your area here. Full steam ahead to victory on May 5th!
