Liberal Democrats believe in building quality homes for those on low and middle incomes. We need more affordable and more social housing.

At December's Council meeting, Cllrs John McKay and Ron Hussey challenged the Council and asked "Are we doing enough? Could we do more?"

The motion, demanding better on housing, gained unanimous support. A report will now be prepared to address questions such as:

  • Are there new opportunities for this financially resilient council to build or invest in social and affordable housing?
  • Are there further opportunities to generate revenue to support local services by investing directly or indirectly in house-building?
  • Can we improve the match between housing stock and housing need?

Families must not be priced out of Basingstoke. As Basingstoke grows, we must deliver much needed social and affordable homes at low cost.
