Work has started at the community football ground in Silchester Road, Tadley to change from gas to renewable energy.

The project successfully gained a grant from the Borough from the Community Infrastructure Fund in late 2023 to add solar panels and a battery to the Stacey Pavilion. The solar panels are now on the roof and operating and a battery will soon follow. Phase two is to remove the old gas boilers and a second grant is being progressed to replace them with electric tanks and possibly air-source heat pumps.

Cllr Jo Slimin who chairs the Barlow’s Park Management Association that runs the facility and leads on the project said “Moving to renewables has been vital for the financial stability of the association. When completed it should reduce our energy bill by up to 75% ensuring we can continue to provide pitches for local teams to play football. We are also delivering for the environment as we are told that the reduction in carbon emissions is the equivalent of planting 150,000 trees.”
