Residents will want to know what went wrong in the the full civil emergency called to deal with the

massive fire that destroyed the building site in Gershwin Road/Brighton Way.

Communications broke down on Friday evening and were poor most of Saturday. This left

residents most affected bewildered and badly inconvenienced.

Meetings are taking place to learn lessons from this experience and to make sure police, fire and

local authorities handle future emergencies better.

The contractors' insurance will compensate all genuine claims arising from the fire. Residents

claiming compensation should first contact their own insurers (Housing Associations in some

cases), who will reclaim from the contractors' insurers. Make sure you present receipts and

evidence to support your claim. It is understood that legitimate claims for compensation not

covered by conventional insurance will be looked at sympathetically.
