More Houses Less Parking3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 13th May 2010
Queen Mary's College has applied for permission to build 13 new homes with a loss of 43 student parking spaces in front of Central Studio. The application notes that replacement parking would be provided but it has not been included as part of this application! Cllr Steve Day reports, "Residents have written to us to express their concerns. Students are still parking in neighbouring residential roads. QMC's travel plan, aimed at discouraging students from going to College by car, has failed". If the plans are approved, where will students park during the development if the replacement parking is yet to be provided? The application also proposes to re-align the exit from the campus in such a way that it creates potential conflict between vehicles and pedestrians. Residents can view the plans (ref BDB/71835) at the Council Offices or at: http://planning.basingstoke.gov.uk/DCOnline2/acolnetcgi.dcgov
